Department of Botany

The Department of Botany was established in 1990. This department offers higher secondary and degree courses as per the prescribed syllabus of AHSEC and Dibrugarh University respectively. To its credit, the department is actively involved in environmental issues like impact of Lower Subansiri Dam, and subsequent bio-diversity issues. The core areas of research of this department are Orchid Diversity and Macrophyte Diversity in Lakhimpur District.

VISION

  1. A holistic development and academic excellence to contribute effectively to the understanding of the subject.
  2. To develop an aptitude towards science and nature.

MISSION

  1. To incite students of Botany towards the immense diversity of the place and further it encompass the diversity of the entire diversity of the North-East.North-East is unique in the aspects that such type of vegetation is rare in this high altitude.
  2. To train botanist to motivate masses towards the conservation of our floral and faunal diversity.
  3. To train students to find and sustainably use the various biological treasures of this place.
  4. To seek out uses of plants from ethnic groups and conserve them.
  5. To make the students aware of the prospects of Eco-tourism.
