Lakhimpur Girls' College

The Department of Home Science was established in 1988. Among all departments of the institution, this department is first of its kind to run simultaneously higher secondary, degree, master degree courses as per the prescribed syllabus of AHSEC and Dibrugarh University. The department also provides vocational courses like Nursing, Dietetics etc. Core areas of research of this department are health and hygiene, fashion designing, and nutritional study. The department organizes different awareness camps relating to nutrition and food value, health-care etc.

MISSION

• Home Science department has consistently strived to contemporize its academic context through innovative research, strong community outreach and implementation of new technological knowledge in the field of Home Science. The department emphasize on developing core discipline specific skills among the students also addresses larger societal issues like health, gender, conservation of textile heritage, socio- economic inequalities, community mobilization, peoples’ participation, resource utilization, environment and education. The curriculum helps the students develop key life skills for their future professional societal roles. Their experiences at college are designed to facilitate self-development and nurture them so that they become aware, active and enthusiastic member of the community and the nation a large.
